OCTOBER... A time to reflect & give thanks ... & have a birthday.
Tomorrow is Canadian Thanksgiving...
The pre thanksgiving memories growing up fill my thoughts. Those crisp nights and first frosts when I lived in Canada, days harvesting and digging up the last vegetables from the garden. Butternut squash, digging up potatoes and carrots and getting them stored for the winter. Getting the garden plowed and getting ready for snow. Those are far in the past but somehow thinking about turkey and pumpkin pie make me remember the smell of dirt while brushing it off the freshly dug potatoes.
I also think of apples - fresh crisp BC apples. And I remember the feeling of gratitude for the blessings of the harvest. I'll have to make some caramel apples just to celebrate canadian thanksgiving. We will wait until November for turkey and pie... but I would love a crisp macintosh apple.. mmmm :)
October memories from Virginia are raking up leaves and seeing all the fallen acorns and gorgeous fall colors that say... decorate for halloween. Find some of the favorite soup recipes and think about some great halloween costumes. But mostly I think of friends in Virginia that I would love to spend a day with.

nice post!! weather is very fall-like but pleasant.
ReplyDeleteI was so excited when after a few years in Vegas I found BC MacIntosh Apples . . . Every fall I try to get my fill for the year. Of course they're always a little more expensive than all the other ones, but what do you expect from the BEST! I love to make apple crip etc. with them. Thanx for reminding me of home! I love you!
