Butterfly Iris's & Africa Iris's & Pink Calla Lily's

GARDENING

Taming weeds & Adding balance & beauty

Yesterday I worked to tame the front flower beds. The weeds are evidence that spring is here. So to get ahead of the weeds - I purchased some boxwood and planted them in the front. I'll have to hurry and get some mulch or rocks to keep the weeds away.

I replaced the dead flowers in the mailbox planter. Yesterday it was gorgeous weather.. Today it is freezing. March thru June is my favorite time of year here in Louisiana.

Azaleas are in bloom, iris's, tulips are beginning to bloom. And I learned it is the end of the growing season for cold crops (cabbage, broccoli and carrots), it is the end of the picking season for grapefruits and oranges... and in a couple of weeks it will be time for the strawberry harvest. So I guess we'll plant some lettuce, and green onions to try to grow some salad stuff before it gets too hot. It's time to start tomatoe plants, cucumbers and peppers. (so much different than gardening in Canada). Hopefully some year in the future we will have some vegetables and fruit from our own yard. I can just imagine it - blueberries, blackberries, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, strawberries, cantaloupe, watermelon, satsumas, grapefruit, lemons, limes... mmmm I guess grapes & plums will grow here too. I wonder if we can grow apples, peaches, pears... (its probably too hot) but I'll have to find out.

I like the vew from the greatroom looking out to the back yard. I love the light that comes in.

And this has nothing to do with gardening (master bedroom painted)
